Influence of Communication with Parent on Happiness of Children: Focused on Mediating Effect of Self-Esteem

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to clarify the influence of communication with parents on the happiness of children. Especially, it was verified whether parents' communication, which is a major environment for children, affects their happiness and whether there is a difference between parents in this relation. For this purpose, 1586 of the 8th year Korean children panel were used for analysis, who experienced changes in the environment. The results were as follows. First, communication with parents affected children 's happiness through mediation of their self-esteem. Second, communication with mother and communication with father were different in the way of mediation. Communication with mother influenced the happiness of the child through self-esteem, and influenced directly on the happiness, while the communication of father influenced the happiness by mediating self-esteem. Discussions and implications were made based on these findings. In particular, it was proposed to mandate father education.
